Cafe Hue Reviewed!

After a dismal experience with Up2You Café, I thought it would go ahead and share a much more positive experience at another Café of similar nature.  The next review is on a place called Café Hue. This café is actually on the same street as the last but maybe another mile or so further down Convoy. Its located in a mini strip mall nestled in with a few different places including other restaurants such as Mignon Pho + Grill and The Koon Kitchen(both of which I will talk about in another post later). Café Hue is located right in between Nijiya Market and The Koon Thai Kitchen. Out of the few times we have visited, parking has always been ample.
Upon entrance it has very modern to feel. It combines both a casual restaurant and that of a lounge.  There is a small area in the back where patrons can come in and sit on a couch around a coffee table to chat and play games. Similar to Up2You Café they also provide cards, Jenga and other board games to enjoy.  Music is always playing in the background. They make use of a modern cash register with an iPad giving the kitchen itself a minimalist feel. Because of this you can actually watch as they prepare your meal.
The Café is rather simple in its initial menu. They offer waffles, crepes, an assortment gelato along with coffee and a barrage of tea. My girlfriend and I have tried a few different crepes; one in particular was our usual strawberry, bananas, whipped cream, Nutella with a scoop of Nutella Gelato over the top. Our first impression after seeing it was highly impressed, the portion was huge and the presentation was very well done. The crepe was cooked very well and it tasted great. Not to mention the Nutella gelato was very good too.  Over all it was a very well received dessert between us both leaving us wanting to have another. We actually plan on trying a few of the other creations they have including the Oreo and coffees ones. I will be sure to include an update as well when we do.  We also tried the ham egg and cheese savory crepe as well. It does not live up to the standards of the sweet crepes and we felt it lacked a bit in egg but still overall was very filling. In terms of drinks we have tried both their milk tea with boba which we liked a lot. It was on the sweet side but nevertheless tasty. We also tried their Café Mocha and it too was also really good, though the regular seemed kinda small.
Over all we both really enjoyed this place a lot and will most likely be our go to place to get our dessert fix on. Prices at first may seem a little steep but after seeing the portions you are given and compared to the pricing at Up2You, it’s well worth it. Though I would like to mention we did not try the waffle but it does seems a little small, but still looked very good. My girlfriend and already showed this place to her coworkers and they all really enjoyed it and want to go back soon. We will be definitely going back to give this another go. Our overall rating out of 10… A very satisfied 9. Check it out!

Up2You Cafe Reviewed

After learning about this cafe and reading about it, My Girlfriend and I had high expectations for this place. The customization and pictures made this seem like the place to be. Sadly after trying it out, it just does not compare to other places we have tried.
For starters, this cafe was actually pretty difficult to find. Convoy St does have quite a few places to eat but this one was tucked in a corner kinda right behind a large auto dealership. The initial vibe you get is very alley like. The parking was not the greatest and on a busy day would be very difficult to find a spot close. Upon entrance into the cafe, you notice the decor was set to try and accomplish 5 settings or so at the same time. it felt as if they might have been trying too hard to appeal to everyone. Aside from that it was pretty roomy, lots of sitting and a couch here and there to lounge. They offered cards and some games to play while you ate and hung out so that was nice.
Upon ordering you have about 3 basic starters, brick toast, crepes, and waffles. From there you build out with an assortment of toppings from fruits to cheesecakes bites. I went ahead and went with the brick toast with Nutella, strawberries, Oreos and cheesecake with a scoop of vanilla. For a drink I had a regular milk tea with boba which was served in a Mason Jar. The Toast was good, crispy outside and soft inside, but it did not stand out at all. Especially for the price you pay for the toppings it got pricey fast. If I have it a rating out of 10 we are looking at maybe a 5. The Milk tea was also okay. I feel like there are much better options out there. When you first try it, it had a very interesting taste... Only after letting it settle did it start to come around.
My Girlfriend ordered the crepe with Nutella, bananas, strawberries, chocolate ice cream and Oreos. This was where my expectation for the cafe hit the floor. When her order was ready, she went up to pick it up only to realize they forgot to put the strawberries inside the crepe itself and offered it to her in a small bowl. Not exactly what she wanted but shes a very accommodating person. When she got back to her seat she went and tried the ice cream only to realize they gotten that wrong as well. they ended up using coffee ice cream. She went back again and instead of offering to redo the plate they just gave her a scoop of chocolate in another small bowl. To me, I find this to be terrible service. She was not happy with this and neither was I.
Over all the food and drink here was not that great. We probably will not be going back and we do not recommend it to others. I like to give the benefit of the doubt and maybe they were having an off day, but to fumble twice and make no actual amends for the service is enough to warrant a bad review. Our score over all out of 10... a resounding 2.
